Attorney and Counselor at Law

Born and raised in Union County, I knew I wanted a career where I could give back and provide a service to the individuals, families, and businesses in this area. My family has called this place home for generations, so I became very accustomed to running into someone out in public who somehow knew a relative of mine. This area is also where my family was able to start and grow a local family business, like so many others here. Growing up alongside family and with a front-row seat to the realities of small business owners, I developed an appreciation and respect for the values rooted here: family, hard work, integrity, and community. I wanted a career that reflected and fostered those values, and that could offer people a genuine benefit and service, rather than a career centered around adversity and conflict.

After graduating from Piedmont High School, I went to Appalachian State University to earn a degree in Accounting. One of the courses required as part of my degree was Business Law. It was in this class that I felt a spark of interest grow. After graduating, I went on to work as a tax intern at a CPA firm, trying to put my degree to good use. But while I worked the long hours completing tax returns, I couldn’t ignore the pull toward studying law. I just wasn’t sure that my personality and values aligned with the stereotypical “lawyer” commonly joked about and seen on television. I knew I wouldn’t be happy or perform well in a job rooted in conflict and confrontation. Despite my reservations, I decided to listen to my instinct and pursue a law degree.

I went on to earn my law degree magna cum laude from the Charleston School of Law in 2024. While there, I immersed myself in the opportunities that aligned with my interests and personality. I knew that I wanted to find a career where my interest in law, small businesses, and tax intersected. I was invited onto the school’s Transactional Law Team, where I gained hands-on experience in negotiation, contract drafting, business transactions, and alternative dispute resolution. I also served on the executive board of the Business Law Society throughout my three years there, and was a Research Editor for the Charleston Law Review.

While I loved my time in Charleston, I knew I wanted to move back to North Carolina to be around family and in the community where I feel at home. After becoming licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina, I started seeking out a career path that aligned with my interests and my desire to provide something good for people, hoping I wouldn’t find myself instead in a job centered around conflict. I wanted to use my legal skills to support the families and small businesses in the community where I grew up.

These goals led me to Zachary Setzer and his team at Providence Wills and Trusts. I am thankful to work with a firm that allows me to interact with local families and members of the community every day. The approach our firm takes to Estate Planning allows me to give quality time and attention to each client so that I can best understand their goals and values. I am grateful for the opportunity to provide every client with an estate plan that puts their goals and values into place, and gives them peace of mind that their family is provided for and their legacy protected.
